YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT WE FOUND AT THE FLEA MARKET!

FLEA MARKET FINDS 2021 PART 1

Grimey

It looks like flea markets, one of the big occurrences I (and many others) look forward to each summer, are in full swing again and I can't describe how stoked I am for it! I mean... come on, where else can you buy destroyed action figures, a jar of old buttons, a taser and a pair of nunchucks all in the same place? Anyways, I visited the local flea market recently and I thought I'd show some of the bullshit I either encountered or decided I needed to go home with. Let's get into it!

So, this is the Hazen Flea Market in Brookville PA which takes place the first weekend of each month starting in May and ending in October. If you look to the bottom left corner of the photo, you can see my girlfriend sneezing and scaring everyone into believing she has the the vid. She doesn’t, though; she just has hella allergies .

ENERGIZER BUNNY SQUEEZE LIGHT

I don't know why but I can NEVER pass on anything Energizer Bunny. He's a mascot for batteries which is kinda dull but put him beside Snuggle Bear (toilet paper mascot) and the Bunny is practically an action figure in comparison. Okay, maybe that's a stretch but does Snuggle Bear have his own squeeze light? Fuck no and, if he did, I wouldn't buy it anyways... especially if it was next to the Bunny light.

My girlfriend actually found this before I did and brought it to my attention knowing that it'd being going home with me. It's partially on the card as the bubble is just sort of dangling there but I'm leaving it as is. There's something about that neon font that's just too pretty to be discarded.

FLINTSTONES ROCK AND ROLL BENDEMS

If you grew up in the 80s and 90s, you're no stranger to Bendems. They're like Funko Pops in the way that they've stayed consistent in design but have been made into countless amounts of characters from pop culture including Battletoads, Star Wars, Batman, The Simpsons and of course The Flintstones.

It's almost unfortunate for the Flintstones to have their own bendems. The point was that you could half-ass articulate them by bending them in position which would only last a few seconds until they bent back to original shape. When it comes to the Flintstones characters Fred and Barney.... They're just little nuggets that offer slim to no pose ability. On the the other hand, these are from the Rock and Roll series and their attire just pops in all the right ways making these a must buy.

TROLL WARRIORS FANTA THE RASCAL

Being honest, I've seen Troll Warriors before but never got into them as a kid. Not because I didn't like them but because when it came to buying a toy at the store.. Turtles came first. Also, if I did purchase a Troll-esque figure, it would've either been Stone Protectors or Battle Trolls; both of which I was previously accustomed to.

Troll Warriors somehow slipped my mind but I'm sure Fanta the Rascal would have put up a decent fight against Leonardo back in the days when I use to pretend the shop vac was the technodrome. It turns out, they even had a cartoon movie called The Magic Trolls and the Troll Warriors to promote both toy lines. You can watch that above courtesy of YouTube user Disney Elsa.

THE TICK "GRASPING" EL SEED

Originally, I had assumed this was a Power Rangers figure after I spotted the "Bandai" marking. But, it's a bit too cartoony for Power Rangers. It turns out my suspicions were correct; this is a figure from The Tick animated series. His name is El Seed leading me to believe that he has an accent similar to Antonio Banderas.

Aside from that, I don't know much of anything about him. But, what's not to love about an anthropomorphic sunflower in a Green and yellow Matador suit (or "traje de luces") with wiggly green leafy appendages? He's like.. the male, more flowery version of Poison Ivy.

THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS MINI GOOPERS BRAIN MATTER AMD STOMACH STUFF

This was a nice little surprise in a dig through bin stuffed full of overpriced McDonald's toys. I managed to snag the two halves of Stomach Stuff and Brain Matter from the Mini Goopers Real Ghostbusters line for a whopping $1. I dug a little more to see if I could find the other 2 pieces but found nothing. I'm not sure if the guy really knew what the item was... I would've easily paid $6 for this thing.

These mini goopers were super cool. Originally, they came with a mini playdoh container of ectoplasm that you could fill them up with... so naturally, I had to reenact what I might have done if I had them as a child.

ACTION LEAGUE NOW BURGER KING TOYS

Earlier, I talked about a few happy meal toys in a bin; These two were among 3 of the most decent picks. We got The Flesh and Thunder Girl from Kablams mini series Action League Now from Nickelodeon.

Off subject, Kablam is such an amazing show! I use to live for this show back when and would spend hours in front of the TV waiting for another episode. It was like Robot Chicken but in a live comic strip form for kids. Luckily enough, you can watch the series right now on Paramount Plus!

Anyways, back to the figures. They also made Melt Man and Stinky Diver which all came together in the same bag as part of Burger Kings "Nickel-O-Zone" series which included toys like a Hey Arnold football plush and a plushy Cousin Skeeter. Action League Now was the real gold, though. Four toys in one? Come on. It's practically all you need next to your Big Kids Meal. Frankenstein Burger King Toy

And for the 3rd best happy meal toys snag in the bunch, we have this Frankenstein also from Burger King. That's right, in 1997, Burger King had an awesome team up with the Universal Monsters and included The Wolfman, The Creature, Dracula and, of course, Frank because let's face it... Frank is the only one you probably know anything about anyways.

They each came with a glow in the dark sticker but Frankenstein came with a table that made his head light up. Unfortunately, I do not have the table but that hasn't stopped me from shining other lights through his head to make him glow. Commercial uploaded courtesy of YouTube user 90s Nostalgia.

7UP COOL SPOT PHONE

Last, but not least by any measure, this extremely sun stained 7UP Spot phone! It's been a really long time since I've talked on or even need a home phone like this but it's Spot so of course I needed to buy it.

This was the first thing I found that day and was originally going to pass on it. I think this was the only time in history someone said they'll "come back for it" and actually stuck to their word. I found all the rest of the things mentioned and didn't really break the bank... so... Spot came home with me in all his sun stained glory.

I remember this phone extremely well and I apologize for bringing up Christmas during the middle of summer but it totally had a commercial during Christmas and you can watch it either above or below wherever I placed it in this article which was uploaded thanks to YouTube user wtcvidman.

I planned on getting this phone on eBay a while ago and could've probably gotten him for the price I paid for a cleaner and less sun damaged one but I wouldn't be here talking about it if I didn't snag him at the flea market... so, meh... I'll chalk it up as a win.

That's all we got for now, folks! I hope you enjoyed reading about my haul of mostly useless junk from the flea market! Stay tuned for, hopefully, another flea market visit before the season ends. As always, thanks for reading!
