Okay 2020, what have we gotten ourselves into? If Turkey Dinner candy corn didn’t do you in enough, surely this will; Big League Chew Hot Chocolate flavored bubble gum. It’s been so long since I’ve had any Big League Chew. I remember carrying this stuff in my back pocket and thinking I was the absolute shit back in the day. Needless to say, the novelty has wore off at 31, especially when it’s fucking hot chocolate flavored.
Upon opening the package which is a beautiful red plaid pattern, I can already smell the chocolate and it is 10,000% identical to Tootsie Rolls which are among some of my least favorite candies of all time so this should be a real treat.
Initial thoughts…. these things look like freeze dried tapeworms with a hefty coat of powdered sugar; one of the least appetizing things I think I’ve looked at all year. Seriously, stop what you’re doing and Google image search “tapeworms” and admire the cunning resemblance.
The taste is, well…. Tootsie Roll basically. I little more on the smooth side, almost like they added Tootsie Roll flavor to milk. It’s not horrible but not the most enjoyable gum I’ve ever had. The good news is it’s aspartame, gluten and peanut free so if you have allergies or any kind of food sensitivities to those ingredients you too can find out just how disturbing it is to chew chocolate gum.
Of course, the rating. I’m going with a 3 out of 10 on enjoyability and a 7 out of 10 for accuracy of flavor. One of these days, I’ll figure out why I do this kind of stuff to myself but that day is not today. Thanks for reading!
