Galactic Gushers Review!

Pretty, ain’t it?

Pretty, ain’t it?

It's the year 2020 and even though we don't have flying cars, hover boards or lightsabers, we do have the next best thing.... alien UFO inspired candies with fruit flavored slime filling! And even more so, they're back to the future! These babies originally appeared in 2015 under the same name without the mystery flavor gimmick and 2 different flavors.

The original flavors for the first release included Galaxy Grape, Asteroid Apple and Black Hole Berry. This new lineup consists of Berry Star Cluster, the return of Asteroid Apple and as mentioned above, a purple one dubbed "Unidentified Flavored Object" or "UFO." If you go to their website (https://www.galacticgushers.com) you can enter your guess for a chance to win all sorts of prizes including shirts, Visa prepaid cards,  blankets, hats, pop sockets and Walmart e-gift cards! The website itself is pretty sweet. After you enter your age, you're taken to a screen where the font changes from an unreadable alien type font to regular old boring readable font.

The choices they have available to choose from include Light-Year Lemon Lime, Big Bang Blue-Raspberry, Meteorite Mandarin-Melon and Satellite Strawberry-Kiwi.

Now, for me, I know it's a stupid thing to do and we're taught from day one not to judge a book by it's cover but fuck you! This books cover was judged from the get go and it is a complete winner! This thing is beautiful! From the black and purple swirled starry background, the sci-fi style font to the sparkly foil Fruit Gushers logo and the sweet Gusher UFO on the back.... like I wasn't going to buy these..

Upon opening the individual packaging, I notice already that it is predominantly purple gushers with only two green ones and one blue one. Berry Star Cluster is okay. Not my favorite, but not the worst. It has that classic fruit by the foot flavor, in my opinion, with most of the flavor being in the gummy itself rather than the liquid. If this was a blind taste test, I think I would've mistaken these for red Gushers. Asteroid Apple is unmistakably apple. The gummy is definitely more flavorful than the liquid as well here but you can tell they're green apple. Think green apple Jolly Ranchers but more enjoyable because you're not breaking your teeth on them.

This mystery flavor has sent me through the ringer so far and, on a side note, I tried these before I knew what the flavor choice options were. To be 10,000% honest, I don't know what these taste like at all. My brain visualizes grape or something that would taste "purple" but my taste buds are saying otherwise. I almost feel like it's sort of limey.... and I even felt this strange cooling sensation as well. I decided to go full alien autopsy and dissect.

Okay, General Mills.... what the fuck is this? It's like.... white gel inside of the clear gel. It definitely tastes limey and is feeling cool in my mouth like I had just ingested something with menthol in it. Very strange.... is this poison? I decided to dissect all of the purple ones and I didn't seem to find this strange white shit inside any of the other ones. In fact, as I tried the other ones, they tasted nothing like this first one I tried and almost taste a little more on the Blue Raspberry side and no weird cooling mentholy feeling. I put my guess in as the Light-Year Lemon Lime option before I tried more of them even though it was the least picked option among the four.

Rating? I like the idea but all in all, these aren't my favorite. Aside from Asteroid Apple and the packaging, they were just kinda "eh" for me. I did, however, love the website for this promotion very much! It's the simple things in life! What are your thoughts? Have you tried these sorta new gushers? Did you get some weird white crap in any of yours and did you dissect them like an actual alien autopsy like I did? Let us know! Thanks for reading!
