Mooby’s: A Pop-Up Extravaganza
Mooby’s: A Pop-Up Extravaganza
Team Up
On a rainy Friday night in Boston, I went to the Mooby’s pop-up restaurant at the House of Blues. A lot of my friends weren’t impressed by the idea of a Mooby’s pop-up restaurant, but I figured I would give it a try. So I ponied up the money and bought a ticket.
I was not let down.
Let’s start by talking about the décor of this place. From the outside, Mooby’s was hard to miss with a large blow-up version of Bluntman and a white sheet with shoe polish writing stating, “I Assure You We Are Open”.
You are greeted with a giant cutout of Jay and Silent Bob upon coming inside. Obviously while this took place at the House of Blues restaurant on Landsdowne Street, they spruced it up a bit to include memorabilia and signs from the various view askew movies.
Some of the best ones where the posters of various “organizations” and “causes” that could be found throughout the movie universe.
The large poster of the holy trinity was one of my favorites.
The signed pictures from different actors with notes of encouragement for the restaurant was a very nice touch. One of the funniest aspects was that the bathroom was playing Morris Day and the MotherF*cking Time on repeat. I’m not sure why but it was just calming.
Now onto the food - it is a restaurant after all, isn’t it? I won’t lie and say I had high hopes for the food, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. It was really good! They had a decent menu of options with classics like the Cow Tipper burger and the Cock Smoker chicken sandwich, but also a bunch of vegan options as well - like the Cow Dong vegan hotdog and the vegan Cow Tipper. They had something for everyone!
One of the coolest things they had done was work with Jacks Abby, a local brewery, to create a Mooby’s exclusive beer. It seems they are doing this with a local brewery at every stop on the tour, which to be honest is really cool and I’m curious what some of the other beers tasted like. My only real complaint was that I couldn’t get a legendary Egg-a-Moobie muffin to go.
The merch was also really cool, but it sold out so fast! I ordered my tickets within 3 hours of release and I still couldn’t get a Boston exclusive Mooby’s shirt which was a bummer (if anyone has the hook up let us know!) I’m seriously bummed about not being able to grab a shirt, but even without that they did have so many different merch options. From hats and stickers to shirts and posters there was something for every price point. All in all, I would say that going to Mooby’s was a great experience and if you get the chance as it tours around the country please do go!
