Recap, July 14 - 20: Trailer Trash

Welcome to our first weekly recap! This week, thanks to Comic-Con, so much crazy shit happened that we couldn’t possibly have written a blog post about everything worth talking about. So instead, we’ll be using this forum to spew our thoughts and opinions on things we want to talk about, but wouldn’t otherwise have time to. So without further ado…

New Trailer : Jay and Silent Bob Reboot

Fucking WHAT?! One of our favorite movies from our middle school years is getting a soft reboot-make-quel. More importantly, unlike Kevin Smith’s more recent work, it looks AMAZING! Not to knock your Yoga Hosers or Tusk, but we just feel like these are the sorts of movies that Kevin Smith should be making. This newest installment in the Askewniverse looks to be a star-studded extravaganza, the likes of which we haven’t seen since the original Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Even more interestingly, this film gives us a re-kindling of the rad bromance between Kevin Smith and Ben Affleck, who have been estranged for over a decade for reasons which shall remain Jennifer Garner. nameless. Not only are we getting Ben playing Holden McNeil in this new movie, but Kevin Smith has said on his instagram that he was basically able to work in an 8-page sequel to Chasing Amy into this new film… AMAZING! In addition to being star studded, the trailer shows us hints that they will be revisiting all of the greatest hits of Smiths most frequently used side characters. This is definitely one of the most exciting things we’ve seen coming out of comic-con, if you want to know more, check out the trailer below.

The stoner icons who first hit the screen 25 years ago in CLERKS are back! When Jay and Silent Bob discover that Hollywood is rebooting an old movie based on them, the clueless duo embark on another cross-country mission to stop it all over again!

Static Cling Release Announced

We’ve been waiting patiently for this to finally drop ever since it was first announced back in 2017… Well we’ve been waiting at least. The 90s was an era of standout cartoons and among all of them Rocko’s Modern Life seemed to stand out the most. This is a show that was written to be age appropriate for kids, but it was really targeting college aged adults as its audience, from it’s age inappropriate jokes (“Oh Baby, Oh Baby, Oh Baby.” Anyone?) to its pointed satire of a modern world gone mad. New Rocko’s Modern Life isn’t something we want in the 2010’s. It’s something we all NEED, and it is long overdue, so when Netflix announced this week that the movie, set in modern times, will be released on August 9th, I nearly shot through the ceiling. Check out the trailer below and definitely save the date for the release on this one.

Dirty Eddie Furlong Is Repeating Himself

Some of the most surprising news to come out of this comic-con week is that the OG John Conner, Edward Furlong, is going to be reprising his role for the first time in the series since Terminator 2 some 28 years ago. Boy, talk about something we didn’t see coming. I mean, Arnie coming back in the last movie (Genesys, a piece of hot garbage) was no surprise as I think the man might actually spontaneously combust if he goes too long without reprising a role. Linda Hamilton returning was pretty surprising but not a total shock, as it made sense to bring back the single most important character in the franchise. But, Eddie? Jesus fucking christ. I could have NEVER in a million years foreseen this return, but holy hell is it welcome. I can totally see his punk attitude from T2 evolving into his actual, real life adult personality. He’s a bit of a shit, but I’m glad Jim Cameron is giving him a second chance…we could be looking at the start of a beautiful Furlong-aissance! And I mean, even if Dark Fate falls short of expectations, it’s still gotta be better than T3.

Take an inside look at the making of Terminator: Dark Fate with James Cameron, Tim Miller, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Linda Hamilton. In theatres 11.1.19. Watch the official trailer: https://youtu.be/jCyEX6u-Yhs Linda Hamilton ("Sarah Connor") and Arnold Schwarzenegger ("T-800") return in their iconic roles in Terminator: Dark Fate, directed by Tim Miller (Deadpool) and produced by visionary filmmaker James Cameron and David Ellison.

Ghost Busters Halloween Horror Nights

If you guys are big fans of Halloween, Ghostbusters or BOTH, this was a good week to be alive. Universal Studio’s Halloween Horror Nights announced this week that they would be bringing a Ghostbusters themed maze to it’s Halloween event this year. If you’ve never been, I’ll be the first to tell you that as a die-hard fan of haunted houses and the Halloween season, HHN is the Rolls Royce of spooky attractions. The amount of detail the Horror Nights Team puts into these house is excruciating, so if you’ve ever wanted to be in the Ghostbusters universe, this is your best shot. Expect a lot more cool things coming out of HHN this year, and in the meantime check out this cool little promo for the house!

two new Halloween sequels ?

Speaking of Halloween, let’s talk Michael Myers for a second. While we weren’t too keen on Blumhouse’s 2018 take on the iconic slasher, we have to respect that it paved the way for TWO new sequels. Yes, this week we got confirmation that the studio is shooting not one but two new sequels back-to-back, tentatively titled ‘Halloween Kills’ and ‘Halloween Ends’ to be released in 2020 and 2021 respectively. Jamie Lee Curtis is also supposed to be back as Laurie Strode in both of these sequels, which is promising in our eyes! Hopefully after all three have been released and the story arc has been completed, DemBoys will leave the theater satisfied because right now…meh.

The saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode isn't over. #HalloweenKills #HalloweenEnds -- Facebook: unvrs.al/HalloweenFB Twitter: unvrs.al/HalloweenTW Instagram: unvrs.al/HalloweenIN Site: www.HalloweenMovie.com -- In response to the global fan enthusiasm for last year's Halloween, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and directed by David Gordon Green, which went on to become the highest-grossing installment in the classic horror franchise at more than $250 million worldwide, Universal Pictures today announced release dates for two new films in the iconic Halloween series, from Trancas International Films, Miramax and Blumhouse Productions.

Godzilla on Twitter and Instagram

Toho’s biggest (and also most famous) star is finally on social media and it was a bit disappointing. I was really hoping the posts on these accounts would be a bunch of incoherent keyboard smashing, due to Godzilla’s fingers being to big for even the largest of keyboards, or at the very least for the posts to be written from Godzilla’s perspective. At least these accounts will be a great way to keep up on Tojo Godzilla news and promotions. You can follow them on Instagram here, or on twitter here.

It 2 Trailer

THIS. LOOKS. BADASS. The first trailer, we must admit, left us feeling the opposite of excited for the new installment. This new trailer has rekindled our interest quite a bit. We get to see much more Pennywise fuckery here. I’ve noticed a new trend in Hollywood. It seems as though many studios like to release a bad or boring trailer first, and then follow it up with an actual good trailer. I can’t help but wonder if the initial bad trailer is done intentionally in order to get the word out about the new movie, but without giving away the good parts. It gets people buzzing, or at the very least bitching, either way, they’re talking about it. This then makes the second, better trailer seem all the more badass when it comes out. It’s the film trailer equivalent to the soft-loud sound dynamics that became popular in the alternative and grunge rock scenes of the 80s and 90s. Once again, seeing is believing, so you can check out this trailer.

IT CHAPTER TWO only in theaters September 6, 2019 http://www.ITthemovie.com https://facebook.com/ITMovie/ http://twitter.com/ITMovieOfficial https://www.instagram.com/ITMovieOfficial/ Evil resurfaces in Derry as director Andy Muschietti reunites the Losers Club-young and adult-in a return to where it all began with "It Chapter Two."
